Position Summary

This position provides direct clinical care to Wellesley College students including psychiatric assessments, risk assessment and safety planning, ongoing appointments and the prescription and monitoring of medications as appropriate. The position also provides clinical consultation to the Counseling Service staff as needed. This position works in the Counseling Service as a member of the clinical team. In addition, the role includes clinical supervision of interns and trainees and participation in the after hours on-call rotation.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations of students by eliciting a thorough history, performing mental status exams, conducting risk assessments and creating a biopsychosocial and diagnostic assessment. This may include ordering or reviewing laboratory studies, as well as medical and psychiatric records, and/or eliciting additional history from therapists or other treaters.

  • Provide ongoing psychopharmacologic treatment for a caseload of students according to professional standards of care

  • Demonstrate an awareness of and utilize appropriate psychopharmacological treatments for various psychiatric disorders that commonly impact young adults

  • Utilize a psychological conceptualization and psychotherapeutic techniques to develop and maintain a treatment alliance

  • Utilize a collaborative approach in developing an understanding of the patient and in creating a treatment plan.

  • Demonstrate the capacity to analyze symptom severity and to compare risks and benefits of various treatments and develop treatment plans, in collaboration with students, that take these factors into account

  • Maintain a strong understanding of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescents and young adults.

  • Provide time sensitive treatment compatible with the academic calendar.

  • Refer students to other service providers, on and off campus as needed.

  • Provide crisis intervention assessment and treatment during office hours by seeing students for Urgent appointments

  • Participate in on-call rotation

  • Facilitate and provide clinical support for psychiatric hospitalizations as needed, including consultation with inpatient psychiatric treaters

  • Communicate with students and staff as clinically indicated to respond to requests for prescription refills in a timely fashion

  • Provide individual and/or groups therapy as indicated according to the needs and resources of the Center

  • Attend Core Staff meeting and Team meetings on a weekly basis

  • Work effectively as a member of The Stone Center Counseling Services team

  • Demonstrate consultation and collaboration skills in working with Health Services and the Office of Student Wellness

  • Attend Student Affairs divisional meetings and collaborate, as appropriate, with campus partners

  • Provide needed documentation and consultation for student accommodations in

  • Partnership with the Class Deans office and the Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources

  • Collaborate with off campus mental health and medical providers as indicated

  • Consult with family members of students as needed.

  • Provide and attend in-service trainings including teaching in our Clinical Training Program

  • Participate in outreach programming.

  • Document psychiatric assessments, clinical appointments and medication refills in a manner consistent with the policies of The Stone Center Counseling Services

  • Review students' records and files to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered.

  • Prepare psychiatric reports as needed.

  • Experience working with an electronic health record

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of The Stone Center Counseling Service

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • To provide clinical consultation to interns and trainees, who are part of the Clinical Training Program.

  • To participate in the Clinical Training Program by offering lectures, didactic training and/or facilitated discussion with our interns and trainees

  • To work with trainees to facilitate their participation in outreach programs

Education Required

  • PMHNP degree with minimum 2-5 years experience post degree completion

  • Licensure in Massachusetts or ability to obtain MA licensure, up to date DEA certification

  • Experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college populations and/or young adults and diverse constituencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed care

  • A strong understanding of developmental and mental health challenges affecting late adolescence and young adult populations.

  • Awareness of telehealth practices

  • Ability to foster equitable, inclusive and collaborative psychiatric care.

  • Empathy and positivity in work engagement with students and colleagues.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team and a willingness to contribute to the overall wellness of the college community.

Other

  • This is a part-time- 4 days per week, 9-month position.

  • An interest and experience in womens issues and familiarity with the work of the Stone Center and the Relational Cultural Theory.
