Job Summary
The Program Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and administration of the In-House Occupational Health Nurse Program, aimed at promoting the health, safety, and well-being of our workforce. The program is expected to grow over time to replace some vendor services as well as to provide education for injury prevention.

A key responsibility of this role will be hiring and direct oversight of COHNs who will provide on-site first aid treatment of injuries as well as referral for more comprehensive medical treatment. The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring high standards of clinical care, policy compliance, and effective injury prevention and health promotion strategies.

This role will work with Operational Safety leadership to develop the program over time to meet additional workplace health needs. The Program Manager will play a critical role in communication between Operational Safety leadership, local Safety leadership, other occupational health services utilized by NiSource, and internal partners, such as Claims, Corporate Safety, and Workers' Compensation.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee COHN clinical competence and scope of practice ensuring delivery of high-quality care and adherence to industry standards
  • Day-to-day management of COHNs, including scheduling, managing personnel concerns, and resolving operational issues, which may include trave as needed
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to support staff growth and program effectiveness
  • Key role in development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive occupational health program tailored to the needs of the energy industry maintaining a strong focus on safety, risk reduction, and confidentiality.
  • Establish procedures for occupational injury reporting, management, and follow-up care
  • Design and integrate protocols for injury prevention, health assessments, ergonomics, and wellness programs
  • Lead strategic planning for the occupational health program, ensuring alignment with company safety, wellness, and operational goals
  • Ensure all occupational health activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, and ADA standards
  • Communicate any concerns or requests to leadership in a timely and resolution-oriented manner
  • Travel as needed to assess employees (within state of practice)
  • Referral for medical treatment for consultation and information regarding specific medical conditions
  • Alert site management and safety of all work-related events, and provide update to stakeholders per case
  • Injury and illness assessment and triage, either in exam room or virtual setting

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Master's in nursing (MSN)
  • Minimum of 7 years clinical experience with at least three years in occupational health, employee wellness, or similar fields preferably within the energy or industrial sectors. Hospital experience desired.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA and HIPPA requirements with ability to make sound medical decisions in each area
  • Experienced in use of computers, email, MS Word, MS Excel, and Occupational Health data programs
  • APRN-BC - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Board Certified Active RN license in VA, KY, OH, IN, PA, or MD
  • NPC - Certified Nurse Practitioner
  • CNS - Clinical Nurse Specialist

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Doctorate in Nursing (DNP).
  • COHN - Certified Occupational Health Nurse
  • COHN-S - Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist

Salary Range*:

$110,200.00 - $165,300.00

*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidates skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience , as well as internal pay equity .
